It all seems to have taken off at a lick!

Well, if you read my last post, you know that I found this lovely little house, and the gorgeous village it sits in - and basically fell in love!

This pic is from google maps, so not necessarily the best view of it - but you get the picture at least. Our bit is the sticky out bit with the white shutters. Nobody lives next door and apparently it is a bit of a ruin. (Part of me hopes it comes on the market in a year or so!)

There isn't much outside space with the house, other than a tiny patch of ground by the stairs and the balcony - but it is enough to barbeque on! Plus, there is a river just across from the house, on the other side of the lane, with lovely green grass and little a little beach, so we won't be short of a nice spot to sit in the evening to enjoy a glass of wine and our local cheese!

The exciting thing is, we love this place so much that we have contracted a surveyor to go and look at it - and we are hoping he will be able to go on Friday!!!!!

As long as there is nothing crazy on the structural front, we are pretty certain this is the one for us. It will make a lovely lock up and leave property for us for right now, and there is scope to expand the living space when we retire/move permanently, whichever comes first. There is a vast garage that could become living space, and an attic - so I think we could create at least 2 decent letting rooms, though I'm not sure it will lend itself to the full accessible option I dreamed of creating.

But, to be honest, the way things are with the world right now, we may find that letting rooms out isn't needed. If Aidan's work continues to embrace homeworking after things go back to something resembling normality, we might be able to convince them to keep him on, and as I work as a freelance writer, I can work anywhere. We may get to just have our lovely friends and family to visit with plenty of space to enjoy each other's company!

I went exploring, and found a wolf sanctuary nearby, as well as the medieval town of Marvejols just 4km away. Closest leisure lake, for openwater swimming is about 30 minutes away (essential information for a girl like me). There's also a couple of others within an hour and a half's drive, plus I've found some awe-inspiring spots in the Wild Swim France book in the region!

I know I shouldn't lose my heart to this house before I see the survey - or visit it, but I am an impulsive girl. As soon as I saw where it was, I was done for. The village is so pretty, and the area, though a bit further out of our favoured search is actually much nicer than the areas directly around Carcassonne. We are right on the edge of two national parks, the Parc Naturel de L'Aubrac and the Parc National des Cévennes so we won't ever be short of things to do, places to go hiking, canoeing and cycling - if my body permits!

So, please keep everything you can crossed for us (if you are one of my EDS chums, then I know if the stiffness isn't being a pain, then this could be quite a few joints!) I really think we may have found our new home - so I may just have to change the homepage of the blog, to reflect the changing hopes we now hold!
